Whitehead Building, Goldsmiths

Education

A new outer skin has transformed a tired 1960s teaching block, allowing it to stand confidently alongside its Grade II Listed neighbour. Crisp, dark cladding, white render and strip glazing helps to stitch the building into its surroundings, while bold orange render and a double height colonnade signposts the new entrance. The new facade has transformed the appearance and thermal efficiency of the building to provide a contemporary and welcoming facility for Goldsmiths London.

The project was shortlisted for the BCIA Awards and the Prime Ministers Better Public Building Award 2009.
