We cycle here and we cycle there…

On my way back from a meeting a couple of weeks ago, I cycled down Marchmont Street next to the Brunswick Centre, and  saw that they were doing a photo shoot for the new London Cycle Hire Scheme docking posts.

I had already seen the new bikes in the reception of Westminster planning and had come to the conclusion that they looked a bit clunky. I presumed they were designed to survive the imagination of the British Yob. I was trying to guess how heavy the bike was but I was not allowed to pick it up, so I could only guess at HEAVY – which could be good to stop a quick getaway, but bad if you want to get up Swains Lane!

It is great to see an idea that encourages people not to use their car or sit on public transport, I just hope that the bikes do not become an after-the-pub trophy!
