Topping out at Broadwick Street

Last week Emrys Architects were delighted to join Great Portland Estates, BAM and the rest of the project team to celebrate the topping out of our 30 Broadwick project.

The practice of “topping out” a new building as its structure reaches its highest point can be traced back to the ancient Scandinavian religious rite of placing a tree atop a new building to appease the tree-dwelling spirits displaced in its construction.

Although we hope no tree spirits needed appeasing, all those involved were more than happy to continue the tradition using a customary yew tree.
