Open Studios

01.06.2015

As part of the RIBA London Open Studios and the London Festival of Architecture 2015, we are opening our studio to visitors on Thursday 4 June 2015 from 4pm to 7.30pm.

To celebrate our fifth birthday year we’re introducing five completed and in progress projects in round table discussions with the project architect focusing on planning and detailed design. These are commercial and residential projects covering new-build and retrofit with an emphasis on providing contemporary spaces and places within historic London.

Projects include Great James Street which involved the addition of a copper bronze roofed extension to the rear of 1720s Georgian terrace. This Grade II listed office building also required extensive renovations and we will be discussing how we balanced the old and the new. With the aid of models, we will illustrate how the triangulated roof form was constructed.

30 Broadwick Street a 120,000 sq ft mixed-use development for a sensitive site in Soho is currently in progress. We will show models and material boards together with 3D BIM modelling.
Residential apartments in Drury Lane, Covent Garden illustrate the sensitivity required to convert a 19th century building to high-end contemporary accommodation. We will discuss how we are creating simple open spaces around the original features.

Our Anson Road & Carleton Road student housing for Zebra Housing Association are on site and we will show how we are creating new buildings within constricted difficult garden sites.

Talk/discussion at 6.30pm
Over a few drinks, we’ll be hosting a talk and group discussion with a focus on growing our practice over five years, our excitement about what lies ahead and our investment in BIM software illustrated with a large scale project currently in progress. 30 Broadwick Street is successfully achieving a Level 2 collaboration with primary consultants, contractor and sub-contractors. An understanding of the process, the strengths and limitations that have been encountered and utilising the 3D modelling tool with the main contractor going forward to completion and client occupation.
Free entry, reserve your place at the talk by contacting five@emrysarchitects.com
