Eco Build – a bit of tyre ticking

10.04.2010

We visited Eco Build recently, and as always we did a bit of tyre kicking on the products. The exhibition this year was much better than previous ones – not just full of boilers!

One insulation product on the innovation stand involved the use of the left over bits of tyres after the rubber has been removed. The only technical hitch is that a residual amount of rubber does remain and therefore it may burn!

We particularly liked the photovoltaic patches integral to double glazed units by Romag the glass specialists. http://www.romag.co.uk/

The low tech system in which we were particularly interested was the Porotherm clay blocks that have a great U value, air tightness, can be lime rendered, and laid very fast. http://www.porothermuk.co.uk/
